Coastal Environmental Surveying Techniques

2020 – 2025

Students were introduced to coastal dynamics and surveying methods such as depth sounding, water level monitoring, wave monitoring, current profiling, CTD profiling, sediment sampling, and surface roughness measurements via theoretical lectures and field exercises.

The module was provided by the Kiel School of Sustainability.

Engineering meets Ecosystem (EmE)

2024

The Engineering meets Ecosystem (EmE) workshop aimed to develop a roadmap for future international collaboration between marine renewable energy and marine ecosystem researchers. Experts from Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia attended.

Themes of the workshop are listed below:
• Emerging Ocean Renewable Energy (ORE) technologies
• Physical and numerical modelling tools employed in ORE research
• State-of-the-art marine ecosystem research and Underwater Acoustics
• The link between ORE and marine ecosystem research
• Collaboration and funding opportunities
• Roadmap for continued cooperation

The project was funded by Kiel University.

ekoNOrd

2022

The ekoNOrd project enabled researchers at Kiel and Oslo universities with research interests in coastal ecosystems to meet, exchange ideas and information, and initiate future collaborations and research projects.

The project aimed at:
• Discussing the state-of-the-art for earth-system and coastal ecosystem research
• Exploring tools for integrating earth-system and coastal ecosystem research
• Exploring available observational products (e.g. field measurements)
• Enhancing capacity and team building between the institutions
• Discussing funding opportunities and timeline for continued cooperation

The project was funded by Deutsch-Norwegische Studienzentrum (DNSZ).
