Curriculum Vitae

I’m a Coastal & Marine Engineer with a strong research background and more than ten years of experience working on projects that protect and shape our coastlines. I design coastal structures, assess their environmental impact, and apply solid science to improve coastal resilience and support sustainable development. I enjoy working with teams and clients to create solutions that are effective, forward‑thinking, and environmentally responsible.

Senior Coastal Scientist

@CORELAB, Kiel University (CAU) | 2020 – 2025

  • Leader of the CORELAB Coastal Modelling Group
  • Contributed and co-supervised research projects concerning coastal hydrodynamics, morphodynamics, water quality and hazards on coastal infrastructure due to extreme weather events
  • Developed decision support tools, monitoring systems and resource assessment algorithms, mainly in MATLAB and Python
  • Planned and conducted measurements of coastal bathymetry, wind, waves, water levels, currents and water quality

Coastal Scientist

@CORELAB, Kiel University (CAU) | 2013 – 2020

  • Developed a novel algorithm to analyze global datasets and models (ECMWF, WAVEWATCH, TPXO, HYCOM, etc.), identify trends in oceans and coastal seas in varying spatiotemporal scales, and automatically generate boundary conditions for numerical models
  • Developed process-based coastal numerical models to determine wave and flow characteristics, morphodynamics and water quality in coastal areas
  • Performed resource assessments for ocean renewable energy and sustainable aquaculture
  • Evaluated environmental impacts of dredging operations and coastal structures
  • Evaluated seismic performances of marine structures using physical and numerical models

Intern Hydraulics Engineer

@Kocaeli Water and Sewerage Administration (ISU) | 2010

Observed and contributed to the design and manufacturing processes of dams, urban water infrastructure and water treatment plants.

Intern Structural Engineer

@Türköz İnşaat | 2008

Observed and contributed to the design and manufacturing processes of reinforced concrete (RC) structures, steel structures and urban recreational spaces.

Education

PhD in Coastal Information Systems

@Kiel University (CAU) | 2013 – 2020 | Honors: Magna cum Laude

The thesis titled “Strategies for the Assessment of Tidal Current Energy Resources through Numerical Models” aimed at stressing fundamental research gaps regarding the characterization of tidal current energy resources with a focus on Indonesia, leading to a concluding overview of the country’s potential on tidal current energy.

MSc in Coastal and Harbor Engineering

@Yıldız Technical University (YTU) | 2011 – 2013

In the thesis titled “Analyzing Seismic Performance of Gravity Type Quay Walls with Sliding Block Method“, a simplified dynamic analysis method is proposed to evaluate the magnitude and phase variation of the dynamic thrust acting on gravity-type quay walls and to predict the seismic sliding displacement of these structures.

BSc in Civil Engineering

@Yıldız Technical University (YTU) | 2006 – 2011

In the senior design project, I developed a comprehensive yacht marina design to meet the functional and environmental needs of the Kalkan district in Antalya, Turkey. The project addressed coastal engineering, marina layout planning, and the integration of local infrastructure within a real-world context.
